Mountain Activities

Head for the hills

Boundary Country’s mountains offer four seasons of elevation-fuelled adventure. Carve fresh powder, hike alpine ridgelines, ride lift-accessed bike parks or snowshoe quiet forest trails. With peaks like Big White, Baldy and Phoenix, the region is packed with scenic terrain, fresh air and no shortage of ways to play at altitude.

Activities

In every season, the mountains here deliver. Ski and snowboard deep powder at Big White or Baldy, race the Spring Fling Dummy Downhill at Phoenix or hike alpine trails bursting with wildflowers. Come summer, ride Big White’s world-class bike park or explore scenic loops above Greenwood. Crisp fall hikes, starlit snowshoeing - this is peak adventure, year-round.

A tripod with a spotting scope stands in a grassy field under a cloudy sky, perfect for birding, surrounded by trees and distant hills.

Take a Walk in Nature

One of the great things about birding is that you don't need much in the way of gear. The most important pieces of equipment are good shoes and a pair of binoculars. Riverside Visitor Centre in Rock Creek hosts an annual Bird Day every spring with a bird count and guest speakers.

Know Before You Go

Safety and Regulations: Mountain weather can change abruptly, so bring layers, check forecasts and know your route. Trails may be shared with hikers, skiers or riders depending on the season. Stay on marked paths, carry essentials and check for lift hours, avalanche conditions or trail updates at local resorts or visitor centres.
